Doors - Will Not Open With Inside Door Handle

SUBJECT:
DOOR WILL NOT OPEN WITH INSIDE DOOR HANDLE (REPLACE HANDLE ASSEMBLY AND ROD)

MODEL:
1993 CADILLAC ALLANTE

CONDITION:
Some owners may experience a condition where the door will not open using the inside door handle in warm weather.

CAUSE:
Material deformation does not allow the inside door handle to activate the rod with full handle travel.

CORRECTION:





Replace the inside door handle assembly and the inside door handle rod with the updated parts listed. The new rod has a larger diameter and additional threads for adjustment. The material in the handle assembly has been revised.

SERVICE PROCEDURES:

Remove/Disconnect:

1. Armrest (2 screws).

2. Switch plate. Push forward and lift up on rear.

3. Door inside handle rod at handle (access through switch plate opening). Rotate plastic retainer out of way and lift rod end to disconnect.

4. Inside door handle (2 screws).

5. Armrest bracket (4 screws). Disconnect express window module connector.

6. Lower door panel (screws at bottom of panel). Disconnect mirror switch connector (driver's door) and allow panel to drop.

7. Door inside handle rod.

Replace/Connect:

1. Door inside handle rod with new rod, P/N 3544862.

2. Mirror switch connector and lower door panel.

3. Inside door handle with new handle assembly (P/N according to color).

4. Rod at handle and secure with retainer.

5. Adjust rod as short as possible to eliminate play without pulling on the door inside handle. Access through switch plate opening.

6. Express window module connector and armrest bracket.

7. Armrest.

8. Switch plate.
