Lighting and Horns: Description and Operation

The courtesy lamps are normally lit when a door jamb switch is closed (door open). The Illuminated Entry System lights the interior lamps when either outside front door handle button is pushed and when a RKE transmitter lock or unlock signal is received by the Keyless Entry Module.
Voltage is applied at all times through Relay Center Fuse 2 to the Illuminated Entry Timer. The door handle switches and the RKE transmitter enable the timer.
The timer provides a patch to ground for the interior lamps causing the lamps to light. The timer keeps the lamps lit for about 20 seconds. When the Ignition Switch is turned to RUN, BULB TEST or START, voltage is applied through I/P Fuse Block Fuse 16 and the PNK/BLK (39) wire to the Illuminated Entry Timer terminal E. The voltage at terminal E causes the timer relay to open its contacts and remove battery voltage through (ORN [1540] wire) from the 20 second timer. The lamps go out, even if the 20 seconds has not elapsed.
