Campaign - A/T Selector Will Not Shift Out of Park: Overview

NO.: 93-C-3
DATE: March, 1993
GROUP: 3

SUBJECT:
TRANSMISSION SELECTOR WILL NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK

MODEL:
CERTAIN 1993 DEVILLES, DEVILLE TOURING SEDANS AND SIXTY SPECIALS

General Motors has determined that certain 1993 DeVille, DeVille Touring Sedan and Sixty Special model vehicles may exhibit a condition where the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) solenoid becomes stuck in the engaged position and does not allow the transmission to shift out of park. This condition is aggravated by cold temperature and is more likely to occur during start-up in cold weather.

DEALER ACTION

To prevent this condition from occurring, dealers are to inspect the BTSI solenoid on all involved vehicles for suspect build date codes and, if necessary, replace solenoids that have affected codes as per the Vehicles Involved and Service Procedure sections of this bulletin.

VEHICLES INVOLVED

All 1993 model DeVilles, DeVille Touring Sedans and Sixty Specials built within the following VIN range require this campaign:

From P4231348 Through P4241821

All vehicles indicated on your Dealer List require this campaign, however, any vehicle within the above VIN range should be checked for campaign involvement utilizing the Vehicle Information Service System (VISS).

DEALER LIST

A list of involved vehicles, which our records indicate were sold by or shipped to you, is enclosed for your follow-up. This list contains owner names, addresses and telephone numbers obtained from Cadillac delivery records. Dealers are to contact the owners of the vehicles indicated on their list and arrange for the campaign correction to be performed as soon as possible. If no list is enclosed, none of the suspect vehicles are known to be in your area.

Also, we suggest you use this list to order your initial parts requirements, however, it is estimated that only one (1) in four (4) vehicles inspected will require part replacement. Please order parts accordingly.
