CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION

During the 'Turn-On' tests performed at the beginning of each ignition cycle, the DERM delays the charging of the 'DRIVER'S 36 VLR' and 'PASSENGER'S 36 VLR' power supplies. While the delay is active, the DERM measures the voltage at the 'DRIVER'S 36 VLR', terminal 'A4', 'PASSENGER'S 36 VLR', terminal A3', 'DRIVER'S SOURCE SENSE', terminal 'A5', and 'PASSENGER'S SOURCE SENSE', terminal A6'. When the voltage measured at the two '36 VLR' power supplies indicates they are in a discharged state (4.5 volts less than Ignition 1) and the voltage measured at each 'SOURCE SENSE' terminal is at least 3.34 volts less than Ignition 1, Code R034 is set. Code R034 indicates an open in the Ignition 1 circuit feeding the Dual Pole Arming sensor or an open internal to the Dual Pole Arming Sensor.

TEST CONDITION(S)

1. Code R014 not set.

2. 'DRIVER'S 36 VLR' and 'PASSENGER'S 36 VLR' charging delay is active.

3. 'DRIVER'S 36 VLR' and 'PASSENGER'S 36 VLR' terminals 'A3' and A4' are both at least 4.5 volts less than Ignition 1.

FAILURE CONDITION(S)

1. Voltage at 'DRIVER'S SOURCE SENSE' and 'PASSENGER' SOURCE SENSE', terminals 'A3' and A4' are both at least 3.34 volts less than Ignition 1.

ACTION TAKEN

1. DERM turns on the 'INFLATABLE RESTRAINT' indicator.

2. 'SERVICE SUPPLEMENTAL INFLATABLE RESTRAINT' message is displayed on DIC.

3. Code R034 remains set for the entire ignition cycle.

4. Current Code R034 clears each time the ignition switch is cycled from 'OFF' to 'ON' if the test conditions are true and 'DRIVER'S SOURCE SENSE' and 'PASSENGER'S SOURCE SENSE' terminals AS' and A6' voltage is greater than (Ignition 1 - 3.34 volts) and less than (Ignition 1 + 2 volts).

NOTES ON FAULT TREE

1. Checks whether Ignition 1 voltage is present at the Dual Pole Arming sensor.

2. Checks for proper connector terminal contact at the Dual Pole Arming sensor's ignition feed. Refer to "INTERMITTENTS AND POOR CONNECTIONS" to properly check terminals. Intermittent Problems

3. Checks Dual Pole Arming sensor circuitry for an open by measuring for proper voltage.
