Lighting and Horns: Description and Operation

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Illuminated entry, standard on all Eldorados and Sevilles, illuminates the car's interior and the door lock cylinders. The system is activated by operating either outside front door handle or by unlocking the doors with the Keyless Entry Transmitter.

The system turns "OFF" the lights after 20 seconds or the ignition is turned to run or crank. the system will not activate whenever the RAP feature is active.

CIRCUIT OPERATION

Illuminated entry is controlled by the RAP/Illuminated Entry (RAPIE) Module. Battery voltage to power the RAPIE Module is applied to terminal A6 at all times. The RAPIE Module is grounded at terminal A5 to ground G400.

When a front door handle is operated, the front door handle switch momentarily closes. This grounds the RAPIE Module's door handle switch input terminal A7, signaling the module to turn on the interior lights and the door lock cylinders lights. The RAPIE Module's courtesy lights control terminal A8 turns on the lights by grounding the Courtesy Lights Relay coil through CKT 690. The relay energizes since battery voltage from Fuse C5 is applied at all times to the relays coil. With the relay energized, the relay contacts close, grounding the interior lights through CKTs 149 and 804. The interior lights and door lock cylinders light since voltage is applied to the lights at all times.

The RAPIE Module turns "OFF" the interior lights by removing the ground from the Courtesy Lights Relay coil, causing the relay to de-energize. This will occur after 20 seconds, or if the RAPIE Module senses battery voltage being applied to either terminal B1 (the ignition input) or terminal A1 (the crank input).

Operating illuminated entry with keyless entry is similar. When the transmitter is used to unlock a door, the Keyless Entry Module's illuminated entry output terminal C7 momentarily grounds the RAPIE Module's terminal A7 instead of a door handle switch.
