Left and Right Front Wheel Speed Sensor

Removal

1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Disconnect Left-hand or right-hand wheel speed sensor harness connector and sensor assembly connector from clip. (29)
3. Disconnect left-hand or right-hand wheel speed sensor connector from harness connector.
4. Remove Bolt/Screw (30) and bracket (31) from fram rail.
5. Disconnect wheel speed sensor assembly (18 or 19) harness with grommets from brackets (28 and 32 or 36), and if removing right-hand wheel speed sensor assembly, brake pipe clip (34).

Note: position of grommets and harness routing for installation.

6. Remove speed sensor retaining bolts/screw (39).
7. Remove Front wheel speed sensor assembly (27 or 37) from steering knuckle assembly (38).

Installation

Note: The wheel speed sensor are a tight fit into the knuckle and are to be pushed in by hand. DO NOT hammer the sensors into position. There are two individual wheel speed sensors that must be installed in their respective locations. Each replacement wheel speed sensor is identified with a white tag, located near the neck of the sensor and labeled L (left) or R (right) or white letter on the wire.

Note: The steering knuckle must be given an anticorrosion coating before installing of the wheel speed sensor to prevent corrosion. DO NOT use grease. Use wax_type sealer, GM P/N 12345489 or equivalent.

1. Install front wheel speed sensor assembly (27 or 37) into coated steering knuckle assembly (38).
2. Install sensor retaining bolt/screw (39).

- Tighten Bolt/Screw (39) to 8 Nm (71 lb. in.)

3. Install wheel speed sensor assembly (18 or 19) with grommets to brackets (28 and 32 or 36) and if installing right-hand wheel sensor assembly, brake pipe clip (34).

Note: Proper Installation of wheel speed senor assembly wire is critical to continued system operation. Be sure that the wire is installed in the brackets. Failure to install the wire in brackets as shown may result in contact with moving parts, resulting in circuit damage.

4. Install bracket (31) and bolt/screw (30) to frame rail.

- Tighten blot/screw (30) to 10 Nm (89 lb. in.)

5. Install wheel speed sensor connector to body harness connector.
6. Install wheel speed sensor connector and body harness to into clip (29).
7. Install lower vehicle.
8. Perform antilock brake system check.
