When the customer uses the turn signal switch in a lane change mode, sometimes the telltale in the instrument cluster may flash at a fast rate. This fast rate is used as an indicator to the customer that there are turn signal lamps that may be burned out. There is a potential, however, for the switch to make contact for the front lamps prior to the rear lamps when engaging the lane change mode. This will make the flasher module sense lamps as if they are burned out. (Actually they have not been turned on yet). The flasher will then flash at a faster rate. If the switch is moved further into the lane change mode, the flasher returns to a normal rate. This is to be considered normal.
Should a customer comment about this condition, the technician is to verify that all lamps are functioning and the switch can provide a normal flash rate in a lane change mode. In this case, the switch does not need to be replaced. In the unlikely event the switch does not allow for a normal flash rate in a lane change mode, replace the turn signal switch.
