Case Extension & Scavenger Pipe
REMOVAL1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove right front wheel assembly and splash shields.
2. Remove Real Time Damping (RTD) sensor from lower control arm.
3. Disconnect right stabilizer link, right tie rod, then right ball joint from steering knuckle.
4. Remove right drive axle as outlined.
5. Support transaxle using suitable support fixture.
6. Disconnect power steering pressure switch connector and wiring harness.
7. Disconnect right transaxle mount and bracket connector and wiring harness, then remove right transaxle to engine bracket and heat shield.
8. Disconnect VSS connector and ground from case.
9. Remove case extension bolts and stud using a torque wrench, then case extension and seal. Seal may remain in extension.
10. Remove roller thrust bearing and selective washer, then bolt.
11. Remove scavenger pipe by prying on differential, then remove seal.
12. Inspect scavenger tube for damage and clogging.
13. Inspect case extension and case mating surfaces for scoring and damage.
INSTALLATION
1. Install scavenger tube seal into case. Then tap scavenger tube into case using a plastic hammer to ensure fit. Pipe rib will remain exposed; this is normal.
2. Install scavenger bolt and torque to 71-116 inch lbs.
3. Install selective washer and thrust roller bearing onto differential output shaft.
4. Insert case extension seal into case extension, then install case extension onto case.
5. Using star pattern, install bolts and stud with stud in 11 o'clock position. Torque bolts to 36-40 ft. lbs.
6. Connect VSS connector and ground to case.
7. Install right transaxle to engine bracket and heat shield, then right transaxle mount and bolts.
8. Install power steering pressure switch connector and wiring harness.
9. Remove transaxle support.
10. Install drive axle as outlined.
11. Connect right ball joint, right tie rod and right stabilizer link to steering knuckle.
12. Install RTD sensor to lower control arm.
13. install splash shields, then wheel assembly.
14. Add transmission fluid as outlined.
