Windows: Description and Operation
GENERAL DESCRIPTIONA permanent magnet motor operates each of the Power Windows. Each motor raises or lowers the glass when voltage is supplied to it. The direction the motor turns depends on the polarity of the supply voltage.
The Power Window Master Switch Assembly controls all of the motors and the Express Down Window Module. All other window switch controls operate only one window motor.
Express Down Feature
The convenient express down window function fully opens the LH front window when the LH Front Window Switch is held down for more than 0.3 seconds then released. If the LH Front Window Switch is held down for less than 0.3 seconds, the window will move down only slightly.
If the LH front UP or DOWN switch is pushed while operating in the express down mode, the Express Down Window Module will detect this and open the window motor circuit. The window will stop moving down and will begin moving up if the UP switch is held.
CIRCUIT OPERATION
Power Window Master Switch Assembly
When the ignition switch is in run, or when the RAP feature is activated, battery voltage is applied to the Power Window Master Switch Assembly's terminal D (Eldorado) or terminal C2/A (Seville) through CKT 76.
When any of the UP switches in the Power Window Master Switch Assembly are operated, battery voltage is applied to the window motor. The window motor is grounded through the DOWN contacts of the Power Window Master Switch Assembly. The motor runs to drive the window up. When any of the DOWN switches in the Power Window Master Switch Assembly are operated, battery voltage is applied to the window motor in the opposite direction. The window motor is grounded through the UP contacts in the Power Window Master Switch Assembly. The motor runs to drive the window down.
Express Down
The Express Down Window Module detects when the LH Front Window Switch is depressed for more than 0.3 seconds and released. When this occurs, the module applies voltage to the LH Front Power Window Motor's terminal A (Eldorado) or terminal B (Seville), making the motor run. When the motor reaches the full-down position, the motor stall current is detected by the Express Down Window Module. The module will now cut off power to the motor.
If the LH front UP or DOWN switch is pushed while operating in the express down mode, the Express Down Window Module will detect this and open the window motor circuit. The window will stop moving down and will begin moving up if the UP switch is held.
Window Switch Operation
When the ignition switch is in run, battery voltage is applied to the window switches through CKT 76. When the UP switch in the window switch is operated, battery voltage is applied to the window motor. The motor is grounded through the DOWN contact in the window switch and the DOWN contact in the Power Window Master Switch Assembly. The motor runs to drive the window up.
When the DOWN switch in the window switch is operated, battery voltage is applied to the window motor in the opposite direction. The motor is grounded through the UP contact in the window switch and the UP contact in the Power Window Master Switch Assembly. The motor runs to drive the window down.
