Central Control Module (CCM)

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The CCM has the ability to detect faults in the Variable Effort Steering (VES) power steering solenoid actuator output circuit. The VES electrical system allows for an electric controlled solenoid to restrict the amount of power steering fluid flowing through the power steering system.
TEST CONDITIONS
This fault is detected when the VES system is not being requested by the CCM to function.
FAILURE CONDITIONS
This DTC will be detected when IGN 3 is "ON," VES function is "OFF," and CKT 1295 is not grounded by the CCM. The CCM will only check once each ignition cycle.
ACTION TAKEN
DTC 26 will set. VES will be disabled.
TEST DESCRIPTION
Number(s) below refer to circled number(s) on the diagnostic chart.
1. This test checks circuit resistance of VES.
2. This test checks for a potential ground in CKTs 1294, 1295 or VES solenoid actuator.
3. This test isolates if ground is in circuits or VES solenoid actuator.
4. This test determines if open is in VES solenoid actuator or circuits.
5. This test isolates if shorted circuits or shorted VES solenoid actuator is setting the DTC.
DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
If the DTC is a history code, the problem may be intermittent Try performing the test shown while "wiggling" wiring and connectors; this can often cause the fault to appear. Check for poor connections at both the CCM and the variable effort steering solenoid actuator connector; these could cause an open or an intermittent fault. Refer to "Intermittents/History Codes/Poor Connections". Intermittents/History DTCs
If CKT 1294, CKT 1295 or the VES solenoid actuator is shorted to ground or open, the CCM will completely disable the variable effort steering output. IGN 3 must be present for DTC 26 to set.
A Tech 1 can be used to monitor VES solenoid actuator output.
