Fuel Filter: Service and Repair

NOTE: Before replacing a fuel filter it is necessary to relieve fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel System Pressure Relief Procedure. Service and Repair
REMOVAL
The fuel filter is located under the rear of the car, on the right rear frame rail.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire and personal injury when the fuel line is disconnected, cover the fuel line with a shop cloth to collect the fuel, and then place the cloth in an approved container.
1. Raise car on hoist.
2. Grasp filter and one fuel feed line fitting. Twist quick connect fitting a quarter turn in both directions to loosen any dirt inside fittings. Repeat on other fitting.
3. Blow out dirt from fittings with compressed air.
4. Squeeze plastic tabs of male connector end and pull connector apart. Repeat for other fitting.
5. Remove the filter from the car.
INSTALLATION
1. Install the new filter in position loosely.
2. Apply a few drops of oil to both tube ends of the filter.
3. Install new plastic connector retainers on filter inlet and outlet tubes.
4. Push the connectors together to cause the retaining tabs to snap into place.
5. Lower the car.
6. Start the engine and inspect for leaks.
7. Pull on both ends on each connection to make sure connection is secure.
8. Bolt onto frame and check for leaks.
