Ignition Cable: Service and Repair

Unlocking Spark Plug Wire Retainer (Typical):

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

NOTE: When replacing spark plug wire assemblies (secondary wiring), the wire assemblies must be routed correctly through the proper retainers. Failure to route the wire assemblies properly can lead to radio ignition noise, crossfiring of spark plug assemblies, or shorting of the leads to ground.

1. Make sure ignition switch is in the "OFF" position.
2. Air cleaner.
3. Insert screwdriver into ends of retainer (7) (Refer to accompanying image for numbered references) to unlock.

NOTE: Do not pull on wire assemblies with retainer locked. Damage to the wire assemblies can result.

4. Wire assembly boots.

IMPORTANT: The silicone boots form a tight seal on the spark plug assemblies. Use care when removing wire assemblies from spark plug assemblies. Twist the boots 1/2 turn before removing, and pull on the boots only to remove the wire assemblies.

5. Wire assemblies.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Wire assemblies.

NOTE: When replacing wire assemblies (secondary wiring), the wire assemblies must be routed correctly through the proper retainers. Failure to route the wire assemblies properly can lead to radio ignition noise, crossfiring of spark plug assemblies, or shorting of the leads to ground.

2. Wire assembly boots.
3. Lock spark plug wire retainer (7) by pressing halves together.
4. Air cleaner.
