Spark Plug: Service and Repair

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Turn the ignition switch to the "OFF" position.
2. Air cleaner.
3. Wire assembly boots.

IMPORTANT: Use care when removing wire assembly boots from spark plug assemblies. Twist the boot 1/2 turn before removing, and pull on the boot only to remove the wire assembly.

4. Spark plug assembly.

Adjust
^ Gap of new spark plug assembly using a spark plug assembly feeler gage. Refer to Specifications for spark plug gaps.

INSTALL OR CONNECT

NOTE: Be sure spark plug assembly threads smoothly into cylinder head and is fully seated. Use a thread chaser if necessary to clean threads in cylinder head. Cross-threading or failing to fully seat spark plug assembly can cause overheating of spark plug assembly, exhaust blow-by, or thread damage. Use a thread chaser to clean threads in cylinder head if necessary. Follow recommended tightening specifications carefully. Over or under-tightening can also cause severe damage to engine or spark plug assembly.

1. New spark plug assemblies. Tighten spark plug assemblies to 15 Nm (11 ft lb).
2. Wire assembly boots.
3. Air cleaner.
