Sixty Special Seat

The six-way power seats move when voltage is applied to one or more of the three seat motors. The direction the motor turns depends on the supply voltage polarity which is set by the control switches, and sent to the motors by the Seat Memory Module. Therefore the LH Seat Switch does not power the seat motors directly.

The three seat motors directly operate the three seat movements: front height, rear height, and forward-back.

Control power to the seat motors is available at all times through Circuit Breaker 24 and the ORN/BLK (60) wire to the LH Seat Switch and Seat Memory Module. The seat motors return path to ground is from the seat motor, back through the Seat Memory Module and LH Seat Switch to ground G200.

The memory functions operate only when the Gear Selector Lever is in PARK and the Ignition Switch is in RUN, BULB TEST or START.

The Seat Memory Module controls the three seat motors by turning them off and on and by using their selected directions. The selections are made by the switches in the LH Seat Switch.

The memory seat system provides an automatic driver's seat return to one of two reset positions. When a switch is closed to operate the power seat, the solid state module transmits the voltage applied from the switch to the seat motors. In addition, the Seat Memory Module counts the pulses that are produced by each motor. The solid state unit in the module stores this pulse count in its memory, and is able to remember the seat location.

If the Set Memory Button is pushed, and the Memory Select Switch is moved to either the Memory 1 position or Memory 2 position, then the pulse counts for each motor is stored. When that memory position is selected at a later time, the seat returns to that set position.

Although the power seat system may be operated with the Ignition Switch in any position, the memory unit only functions if the Gear Selector Lever is in PARK when the Ignition Switch is in RUN, BULB TEST or START.

With the Easy Exit Switch closed, voltage is applied simultaneously to the Seat Memory Module's memory 1 and memory 2 inputs. This signal the module to move the seat to a fully down and fully back position. The module applies voltage to all three LH seat motors until the seat is fully back and down. The Easy Exit function operates with the Ignition Switch in OFF.

Each motor contains an electronic circuit breaker (PTC). It resets only after voltage is removed from the motor.
