CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
During normal non-deployment operation of the SIR system, the DERM monitors the voltage supplied through the Dual Pole Arming Sensor to the high side of the Passenger's Deployment Loop at 'PASSENGER'S SOURCE SENSE', terminal 'A6'. The normal measured 'PASSENGER'S SOURCE SENSE' voltage will be greater than ('Passenger's 36 VLR' - 6 volts). When 'PASSENGER'S SOURCE SENSE' drops below the normal voltage while simultaneously the 'PASSENGERS SENSE LOW' voltage is between 39% and 50% of 'PASSENGER'S 36 VLR' for 500 milliseconds, Code R044 is set. Code R044 indicates an open, short to ground or short to 5 volts on the 'PASSENGER'S SOURCE SENSE' circuit, or a fault in the Dual Pole Arming sensor's 'PASSENGER'S SOURCE SENSE' circuitry.
TEST CONDITION(S)
1. Tested every 100 milliseconds while 'Continuous Monitoring' tests active.
2. Voltage at 'PASSENGER'S SENSE LOW', terminal 'B7', is between 39% and 50% of 'PASSENGER'S 36 VLR', terminal 'A3'.
FAILURE CONDITION(S)
1. Voltage at 'PASSENGER'S SOURCE SENSE', terminal 'A6', is less than ('PASSENGER'S 36 VLR' - 6 volts) for 500 milliseconds.
ACTION TAKEN
1. DERM turns on the 'INFLATABLE RESTRAINT' indicator.
2. 'SERVICE SUPPLEMENTAL INFLATABLE RESTRAINT' message is displayed on DIC.
NOTES ON FAULT TREE
1. Checks for a short to ground in the "PASSENGER'S SOURCE SENSE" circuit between the DERM and Dual Pole Arming Sensor.
2. Checks for an open in "PASSENGER'S SOURCE SENSE" circuit.
3. Checks for a short to 5 volts on the 'PASSENGER'S SOURCE SENSE' circuit.
4. Checks for proper connector terminal contact at the DERM and Dual Pole Arming sensor connectors. Refer to "INTERMITTENTS AND POOR CONNECTIONS" to properly check terminals. Intermittent Problems
5. Checks the Dual Pole Arming Sensor for an open 2490 ohm resistor by measuring for proper voltage.
