Circuit Description

This diagnostic test is to detect the vehicle transaxle being placed in gear under conditions that may cause damage to the vehicle powertrain or create an unsafe condition. When such a condition exists, Code P097 is set and engine power will be reduced by disabling fuel to individual cylinders.

Test Condition(s)

1. Codes P021 and P022 not set.

Failure Condition(s)

1. Gear selection from Park or Neutral to Drive or Reverse.
2. Vehicle speed less than 6 mph.
3. Engine speed greater than 2000 RPM.
4. Throttle angle of 20 degrees or greater (if Code P097 is already stored in history, use a throttle angle of 16 degrees or greater).
5. Condition 1 through 4 are valid for 0.3 second.

Action Taken

1. 'REDUCED ENGINE POWER' message is displayed on the DIC.
2. PCM will disable fuel to individual cylinders to reduce engine power.
