Anti-Lock System

The function of the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) is to minimize wheel lockup during heavy braking on most road surfaces. The system performs this function by monitoring wheel speed and controlling the brake fluid pressure to each front wheel and both rear wheels during braking. This allows the driver to retain directional stability and better steering capability.
1993 Eldorado and Seville models with the 4.6L Northstar engine are also equipped with a real-time traction control system (TCS). The purpose of the traction control system is to prevent excessive wheel spin during acceleration or when turning a corner at high speed. The TCS also prevents wheel slip on slippery surfaces such as ice-covered roads; this allows for improved acceleration and improved stability while driving. The ABS and TCS are both part of the same hydraulic and electrical system.
