Timing Chain Tensioner: Service and Repair

CAMSHAFT DRIVE CHAIN TENSIONER

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Front cover.
2. Two tensioner mounting bolts.
3. Tensioner

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Collapse tensioner as follows:






A. Rotate ratchet release lever counterclockwise and hold.
B. Collapse tensioner shoe and hold.
C. Release ratchet lever and slowly release pressure on shoe.






D. As ratchet lever moves to first click hold tensioner shoe inward and insert a pin thru hole in release lever.
E. Locked ratchet mechanism should hold shoe in collapsed position.

2. Tensioner and bolts

TIGHTEN
- Bolts to 25 Nm (20 lbs. ft.)

3. Remove retaining pin allowing tensioner shoe to extend
4. Front cover.
