Traction Control - Intermittent Codes 41 & 45 or 51 & 55

Group Ref.: Brakes

Bulletin No.: 315012

Date: November, 1993

SUBJECT:
TRACTION CONTROL CODES 41 AND 45 OR 51 AND 55 MAY INTERMITTENTLY SET (REPLACE EBTCM)

MODELS:
1993 CADILLAC ELDORADOS
1993 CADILLAC FLEETWOODS (RWD)
1993 CADILLAC SEVILLES (EQUIPPED WITH TRACTION CONTROL)

Condition:

Some owners may experience intermittently set ABS/TCS codes. These codes are: right front ABS solenoid valve fault (code 41 for Fleetwoods or code 51 for Eldorados/Sevilles) and left front ABS solenoid valve fault (code 45 for Fleetwoods or 55 for Eldorados/Sevilles). This usually occurs when the vehicle is restarted after it has been allowed to sit for 15-20 minutes following a 15-20 minute drive cycle.

Cause:

This condition may be due to a faulty transistor in the Electronic Brake and Traction Control Module (EBTCM). Suspect EBTCM's have a serial number which begins with a 2. Refer to Figure 1.

Correction:

Any vehicle which sets a 41 and 45 together, or a 51 and 55 together, and has a suspect EBTCM should have the EBTCM replaced. All other vehicles should be diagnosed per the Service Information Manual.
