Condition (Figure 1)

Some vehicles equipped with a Hydra-Matic 4T80-E transaxle built before August 4, 1994 (Julian date 4216) may exhibit a grinding or scraping noise in park and neutral. This condition is not heard in drive and reverse with brakes applied. It is most prevalent on the driver's side, in an enclosed area such as a garage, alley or parking lot.

Cause

Driven Sprocket Thrust Bearing assembly.

Correction

Replace the Driven Sprocket Thrust Bearing (417).
