RED BRAKE LIGHT ON DUE TO BRAKE PRESSURE MODULATOR VALVE LEAKS
MODELS AFFECTED:
1993 ELDORADOS AND SEVILLES EQUIPPED WITH TRACTION CONTROL
Some 1993 Eldorados and Sevilles equipped with traction control may experience a brake fluid leak from the Brake Pressure Modulator (BPM) valve prime line fitting. The brake fluid level sensor will turn on the red brake light when this occurs. This condition may be caused by the hex set screw inside the prime line fitting not being adequately tightened.
To correct this condition use the following procedure:
1. Remove brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir to level below the prime line opening.
2. Disconnect the prime line from the brake pressure modulator valve. Drain the remaining brake fluid from the prime line.
3. Tighten the prime line hex set screw to 12 N-m (9 lbs.ft.) using a 4 mm hex driver. Refer to Figure 1.
4. Reconnect the prime line to the brake pressure modulator valve.
5. Refill the prime line and master cylinder reservoir to the proper level with brake fluid.
6. Bleed vehicle per Section 5 of the Service Information Manual using the bleeder screw on BPM valve.
For warranty purposes use Labor Operation H2477 at .2 hour plus .3 hour for bleed procedure.
