SUBJECT:
WEATHERSTRIP PROTRUSION BETWEEN FRONT AND REAR DOORS AND THE ROCKER MOLDING

MODELS AFFECTED:
1992-1993 SEVILLES (EXCLUDING STS)

Some 1992 and early 1993 Sevilles may exhibit weatherstrip protrusion between the front and rear doors and the rocker molding. This protrusion was due to variation in alignment of doors, rocker moldings, and insufficient clearance between the lower rear corner of the rear door and the quarter panel. This condition was corrected in production by the release of a redesigned one-piece weatherstrip in coordination with a depression in the front lower corner of the quarter panel starting with VIN breakpoint PU820384.

To correct this condition in the field, replace the existing two-piece weatherstrip with the new one-piece design (P/N 3543467 RH and 3543468 LH) using the following procedure:

1. Remove carpet retainer. Refer to Service Information Manual, Section 10-10.

2. Remove the front and rear sill plates. Refer to Service Information Manual, Section 10-6.

NOTE:
Replace any damaged sill plate retainers.

3. Remove the original sill plate weatherstrips from the sill plates and discard.

4. Remove the push pin retainer from the rear end of the new weatherstrip by snipping the barbed end off and pushing it out of the weatherstrip.

5. Remove push pin retainer from the rear auxiliary weather seal (5) and install it to the rear of the new sill plate weatherstrip (3) as shown in Figure 1, View A.

6. Install the new weatherstrip (3) to the front sill plate (1). Locate the weatherstrip 10 mm rearward of the slot locator at the rear of the front sill plate flange as shown in Figure 1, View B.

7. Reinstall the front sill plate with new weatherstrip to the vehicle.

8. Continue the installation of the new weatherstrip to the rear sill plate (2) and reinstall the rear sill plate to the front sill plate and to the vehicle. Refer to Service Information Manual, Section 10-6.

NOTE:
Ensure that the weatherstrip is properly seated to the sill plate flanges.

9. Measuring up from the bottom of the rear auxiliary weatherstrip (5), cut a slot approximately 28 mm long as shown in Figure 1, View C.

10. Insert the retainer (4) through the hole in the rear auxiliary weather seal (5) and secure to quarter panel.

11. Using 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive 08008, or equivalent, bond the flap of the rear auxiliary weatherstrip (5) to the new sill plate weatherstrip (3) as shown in Figure 1, View D.

NOTE:
In order to maintain an acceptable appearance, both right-hand and left-hand sill plate weatherstrips are to be changed when this procedure is performed.

12. Reinstall carpet retainer. Refer to Service Information Manual, Section 10-10.
