Subject:
Revised Cupholder Assembly
Models:
1993-95 Cadillac Eldorado, Seville
Beginning in May, 1994, a new design cupholder was introduced into production of the 1994 Eldorado and Seville. Revisions to the cupholder include a new latch and spring configuration, revised cupholders, revised door-to bun fit, leather wrapped bun (all leather for STS and ETC, combination leather/vinyl for base Eldorado and SLS), and a variety of other modifications for enhanced performance. The revised cupholder was introduced as supplies of the previous design cupholder were depleted; not all colors began production in May, 1994. All colors, however, were introduced by start of production, 1995.
The new design cupholder can be identified as per Figure 1.
^ New design cupholders utilize two rubber flaps. Previous design cupholders used no rubber flaps.
^ The new design cupholder door, in the closed position, is recessed into the bun by about 5 mm (3/16"). The previous design cupholder door was flush to the armrest bun.
^ The new design armrest bun assemblies use a smooth leather wrap on the top (and on the sides for ETC and STS). Previous armrest bun assemblies were wrapped in grained vinyl.
The armrest cupholder assembly is serviced by three part numbers (per color), including the following:
1. Cupholder (inner) - includes the entire cupholder mechanism which is mounted in the armrest.
2. Bun (door upper) - the armrest bun assembly. Only the fully leather wrapped bun is stocked by GMSPO.
3. Base Plate (door lower) - the lower close-out on the underside of the armrest.
Important:
Old (previous design) and new design cupholder, bun and baseplate assemblies should not be intermixed. New design cupholders, buns and baseplates can only be used with each other if proper fit and function are to be achieved.
PARTS INFORMATION
The new design cupholders, buns and baseplates are currently available in all 1994 and 1995 colors per chart.
Parts are currently available from GMSPO.
1993 Past Model Colors: The new design cupholder bun and baseplate assemblies are not currently available in the following 1993 colors, which were discontinued at the end of production year 1993: Taupe, Garnet Red, Very Dark Sapphire (Blue) and Light Saddle. Previous design cupholder, bun and baseplate assemblies will continue to be available through GMSPO in the discontinued colors. Check your current GMSPO catalog for part numbers.
To service concerns of inoperative latches on PREVIOUS DESIGN cupholder assemblies, refer to Corporate Service Bulletin Number 318308 (Cadillac divisional number is T-93-132). This bulletin describes part numbers and replacement procedures for the latch assembly utilized on the previous design cupholder only. Bulletin Number 318308 DOES NOT APPLY to the new design cupholder.
The new design cupholder and early design cupholders mount to the console in an identical manner. Refer to the 1994 or 1995 Service Information Manual for removal and replacement procedures.
