Output Shaft Replace
1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove both front wheel and splash shield assemblies.2. Disconnect both front suspension position sensors from lower control arms and position aside.
3. Disconnect both front stabilizer links from struts.
4. Separate both tie rods and ball joints from steering knuckles.
5. Remove both drive axles from transaxle as outlined.
6. Remove case extension and scavenger pipe as outlined.
7. Remove differential housing as outlined.
8. Remove snap ring and left differential gear.
9. Remove output shaft through left (driver's) side.
10. Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. Connect ball joint to knuckle. Torque ball joint nut to 84 inch lbs., then tighten an additional 120 °(two flats). When tightening nut, a minimum torque of 37 ft. lbs. must be obtained. If 37 ft. lbs. cannot be obtained, inspect for stripped threads. If threads are OK, replace ball joint and knuckle. If required, turn nut up to an additional 60° (one flat) to allow for installation of cotter pin.
b. Connect tie rod to knuckle. Torque nuts to 7.5 ft. lbs., then an additional turn (2 flats). When tightening tie rod end nut, a minimum torque of 33 ft. lbs. must be obtained. If 33 ft. lbs. cannot be obtained, inspect for stripped threads. If threads are OK, replace ball joint and knuckle. After tightening castellated nut to specification, align slot in nut to cotter pin hole by tightening only. Do not loosen nut for cotter pin installation.
c. Torque stabilizer link nuts to 49 ft. lbs.
d. Add transmission fluid as outlined.
