Park Lock Cable

REMOVAL
Refer to the images when servicing park lock (console shift) cable.
1. Place shifter in Park, then remove left instrument panel sound insulator and loosen left front carpet to allow access to park lock cable routing.
2. Remove steering column reinforcement plate, then steering column bolts and lower steering column.
3. Turn ignition key to Run position. Do not attempt to perform Step 4 with ignition key in any other position than Run.
4. Slip a flat head screwdriver blade into ignition switch inhibitor slot, then depress cable latch and pull Park lock cable from inhibitor.
5. Remove radio and console trim plates.
6. Disconnect park lock cable at shifter assembly.
7. Remove park lock cable from vehicle.
INSTALLATION
1. Using a flat head screwdriver, pry lock button of park lock cable into UNLOCKED position, then connect park lock cable at shifter assembly. Do not attempt Step 3 with ignition key in any other position than RUN.
2. With shifter in Park and ignition key in Run, snap park lock cable into inhibitor housing.
3. Turn key to Lock position, then snap cable end onto pin of shifter lever.
4. Push park lock cable toward shifter lever assembly to remove slack.
5. Push lock button on park lock cable down into locked position.
6. With shifter in Park and ignition key in Lock position, ensure shifter cannot move to another position. Ignition key should not be removable from its cylinder.
7. Turn ignition key to Run position and move shifter to Neutral. Ensure ignition key cannot be turned to Lock position.
8. If checks in Steps 7 and 8 are OK, proceed with procedure. If checks are not OK, readjust park lock cable beginning with Step 1.
9. Raise steering column, then install bolts and reinforcement plate
10. Install console and radio trim plates, then secure left front carpet and left instrument panel sound insulator.
