Timing Chain Tensioner: Service and Repair
CAMSHAFT DRIVE CHAIN TENSIONER
NOTICE: All three camshaft chain tensioners use the same removal and installation procedures.
Primary Chain Tensioner:
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Front cover.
2. Two tensioner mounting bolts.
3. Tensioner.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Collapse tensioner as follows:
Fig. 15 Tensioner Release Lever Rotation:
^ Rotate ratchet release lever counterclockwise and hold.
^ Collapse tensioner shoe and hold.
^ Release ratchet lever and slowly release pressure on shoe.
Fig. 16 Tensioner Release Lever Rotation:
^ As ratchet lever moves to first click, hold tensioner shoe inward and insert a pin through hole in release lever.
^ Locked ratchet mechanism should hold shoe in collapsed position.
2. Tensioner and bolts.
IMPORTANT: Make sure the tensioner release lever faces toward you before tightening.
3. Tighten bolts to 25 Nm (18 lbs. ft.).
4. Remove retaining pin allowing tensioner shoe to extend.
5. Front cover.
