Temperature Settings

TEMPERATURE SETTINGS
Various temperature settings should be used to select the particular setting that is most comfortable, regardless of the outside temperature. These settings work much the same way as a house thermostat. Settings are spaced between 65°F and 85°F with increments of 1°F. To change temperature settings, press the "WARMER" or "COOLER" button until the desired temperature setting is displayed. When a temperature of 65 is selected, and the "COOLER" button is pressed, the system goes to 60 or max cool. This means that the system will provide the coolest air delivery possible for the selected mode. This will continue until another temperature setting is selected. The opposite is also true, if 85 is selected and the "WARMER" button is touched, the system goes to 90, or max heat, and will provide the warmest air delivery possible for the selected mode. This will continue until another temperature setting is selected.

NOTE: The compressor does not run in the "OFF" or "ECON" setting therefore cooling the interior of the vehicle beyond the outside air temperature is not possible in "OFF" or "ECON" settings.

"OFF" Setting
With this setting selected, the blower motor or A/C compressor will not operate. The system will however still try to reach the temperature range selected. For example, if 70 is selected and it is a cold day, the car may eventually reach the 70°F temperature range but over an extended period of time because the blower fan is not operating. If it is a hot day, it can only cool the car to near outside air temperature since in this position the blower motor and A/C compressor will not run. This selection forces the air inlet valve open to outside air and sends half of the air out of the floor ducts and half of the air out of the defroster outlets.

"ECON" Setting
In this setting, the system will not allow the A/C compressor to operate. Thus the system cannot cool the vehicle to a temperature any colder than the outside air temperature. This setting is automatic in that it determines blower speed and air outlet positions based on different inputs. All incoming air into the HVAC module is from outside. Depending on the heating or cooling requirement, most of the air will enter the passenger compartment from one of the following four positions:
1. Out the floor heater outlet, rear outlets.
2. Out the A/C outlets, rear outlets.
3. A/C, heater and rear outlets.
4. Defrost, heater and rear outlets.

"AUTO" Setting
In this setting everything is controlled automatically based on the various A/C system inputs. In this setting, the system has the capability of any fan blower speed, any air inlet position, and any air outlet position to attain and maintain the selected temperature. Depending on the heating or cooling requirements, most of the air will enter the passenger compartment from one of the following four positions:
1. Out the floor heater outlet, rear outlets.
2. Out the A/C outlets, rear outlets.
3. A/C, heater and rear outlets.
4. Defrost, heater and rear outlets.

"DEFOG" Setting
This setting splits the air flow between the defroster and floor ducts. At temperatures above 40°F, the compressor is enabled to dehumidify the air entering the passenger compartment.

"DEFROST" Setting
In this setting, everything is controlled automatically, as in "AUTO", except that most of the air is delivered out the defroster grille on the top of the instrument panel.
