Fuel Door: Description and Operation

The Fuel Door Release system consists of: the Fuel Door Release Solenoid, Fuel Door Release Switch, Fuel Door Release Relay, Transaxle Range Switch, Trunk/Fuel Door Release Inhibit Relay and the harness wiring.

Pressing the Fuel Door Release Switch grounds the coil of the Fuel Door Release Relay. The Fuel Door Release Relay energizes and voltage is applied to the Fuel Door Release Solenoid. The Fuel Door Release Solenoid energizes and pulls in the cable which is attached to the latch assembly. The latch pulls in releasing the spring loaded fuel filler door.

The Trunk/Fuel/Door Release Inhibit Relay disables Fuel Door Release operation when the Ignition is in RUN, BULB TEST or START and the transaxle is not in PARK. The Transaxle Range Switch allows the system to operate by applying voltage to the Fuel Door Release Relay Coil when the ignition is in RUN, BULB TEST or START and the transaxle is in PARK.

If a malfunction should occur with the electric fuel door release, the fuel filler door can be released manually by pulling the fuel door cable handle in the trunk.
