Trunk Lid/Tailgate Release
The Trunk Lid Release System consists of the following: the Transaxle Range Switch, Trunk Lid Release Solenoid, Trunk/Fuel Door Release Inhibit Relay, Trunk Lid Release Switch, Trunk Release Relay, Valet Switch, Keyless Entry Module and the harness wiring. The Trunk Lid Release allows the trunk to be opened by using the Trunk Lid Release Switch, located in the Headlight Switch, or by using the Keyless Entry Transmitter. The Valet Switch, which is located in the glove box, prevents trunk lid release operation from the Trunk Lid Release Switch when it is moved to the open position.
Pressing the Trunk Lid Release Switch grounds the relay coil of the Trunk Release Relay if the Valet Switch is closed. The relay energizes and battery voltage is applied to the Trunk Lid Release Solenoid. The solenoid energizes, the plunger retracts, pulling back the release lever in the lock assembly. This releases the trunk lid from the striker.
The Keyless Entry Module applies battery voltage directly to the Trunk Lid Release Solenoid when the module receives a trunk open signal from the transmitter.
The Trunk/Fuel Door Release Inhibit Relay disables Trunk Lid Release operation when the Ignition is in RUN, BULB TEST or START and the transaxle is not in PARK. The Transaxle Range Switch allows the system to operate by applying voltage to the Trunk Release Relay Coil when the ignition is in RUN, BULB TEST or START and the transaxle is in PARK.
