Rear Window Defogger
REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER
The rear window defogger is an electrically heated back glass and is energized by depressing the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) button. Current flows through the defogger relay to the back glass. Electrically conductive horizontal grid lines are bonded to the inside of the back glass. When the grid lines are subjected to current flow, the back glass is heated and the surface is defogged.
When the IPC button is depressed, a signal is sent to the ACR The Air Conditioning Programmer (ACP) grounds the defogger relay to allow current to flow. The IPC will turn the relay "OFF" automatically after ten minutes. Additional five minute periods of heating operation can be obtained each time the button is depressed until a new ignition cycle occurs. The defroster can be manually shut "OFF" at any time during its operating cycle by depressing the IPC button or turning "OFF" the ignition.
