Ignition Switch

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. On models with floor shift, place transmission selector in park and rotate ignition lock to "Run" position.
3. Remove left hush panel, lower steering column cover, insulator at toe plate, and the lower steering column mounting screws.
4. Remove nuts securing upper steering column bracket to instrument panel, then carefully lower column. Disconnect shift indicator cable and electrical connectors, as needed, prior to lowering column. Do not force column down as it may be damaged.
5. Remove dimmer switch mounting nut, screw and the dimmer switch, then tape actuator rod to steering column.
6. On models with floor shift, insert screwdriver into slot in ignition switch inhibitor, depress park-lock cable latch and disconnect cable from inhibitor, Fig.2 Ignition switch must be in "Run" position. Do not attempt to disconnect park-lock cable with switch in any other position. Rotate ignition key to "Off-Lock position.
7. Remove ignition switch stud bolt, disconnect electrical connector, then remove switch assembly.

INSTALLATION
1. Move ignition switch slider to extreme right, then one detent to the left to place switch in Off-Lock position.
2. Connect electrical connector to ignition switch, install switch assembly on column ensure actuator is properly engaged, and torque stud bolt to 35 lb in
3. Install dimmer switch assembly, depress switch against actuator and insert 3/32 inch drill into adjustment slot, Fig.3 then torque nut and retaining screw to 35 lb in
4. On models with floor shift, rotate ignition lock to "Run" position, then install shift-lock cable on inhibitor.
5. Reverse remaining procedure to complete installation. Torque upper column bracket bolts to 20 lb ft and lower column bolts to 25 lb ft
