DEFINITIONEngine cranks OK, but does not start quickly. Engine cranks for more than 2 seconds before starting in ambient temperatures above -18°C (0°F) Engine cranks for more than 4 seconds before starting in ambient temperatures between -29°C and -18°C (-20°F and 0°F).
POWERTRAIN SYSTEM
Perform Powertrain System Check, if not already completed. Chart 1 Powertrain System Check
FUEL SYSTEM
Perform Chart 6C-1 Fuel System Check looking in particular for: Chart 6C-1 Fuel System Check
^ Fuel Quality
- Alcohol Content
- Contaminants
- Water Content
- Sour Fuel
^ Low Fuel Pressure
- Fuel Pump Circuit Problem
^ Plugged or dirty Fuel Filter
^ Fuel Injectors
- Not Operating
- Low Flow Rate
^ Idle Speed Control
- Faulty Idle Speed Control (ISC) Motor
- Throttle Position Sensor/Idle Learn Not Complete
IGNITION SYSTEM
Perform Chart 1 Ignition System Check, looking in particular for: Chart 1 Ignition System Check
^ High Resistance, Open, Shorted, or Arcing Spark Plug Wires, crossfire between spark plug wires
^ Contaminated or Damaged Spark Plugs
^ Faulty Coil Pack or Ignition Control (IC) Module
EXHAUST DIAGNOSIS
Check exhaust system looking In particular for:
^ Restricted Catalytic Converter or Exhaust
MECHANICAL CAUSES
Check for the following mechanical causes:
^ Air Induction Restrictions
^ Low Engine Compression
DRIVER-INDUCED CAUSES
Check for possible driver-induced causes:
^ Improper starting procedure. Refer to Starting Instructions described in Owners Manual.
