Steering Column - Dissemble & Assemble
DISASSEMBLE1. Remove upper column as outlined under Upper Column Refer to Service and Repair.
2. Remove housing end cap.
3. Remove cruise control and multi-function lever connectors from base plate and disconnect.
4. Remove multi-function lever.
5. Remove cover screws, then remove the tilt lever.
6. Remove lock housing cover assembly.
7. Remove base plate and dimmer switch rod actuator.
8. Remove switch actuator pivot pin, then the pivot and pulse switch assembly as follows:
a. Allow switch to hang freely if removal is not required.
b. Disconnect pivot and switch connector from bulkhead connector.
c. Gently pull wire harness through column.
9. Remove spring retainer, spring and spring guide.
ASSEMBLE
1. Install spring guide and spring. Lubricate with lithium grease.
2. Using a cross recess screwdriver, push spring retainer down and turn clockwise to lock in place.
3. Install pivot and switch assembly to lock housing cover assembly.
4. Connect switch actuator pivot pin to switch and cover.
5. Pull pivot and switch assembly wire harness through steering column. Connect switch connector to bulkhead connector.
6. Install dimmer switch rod actuator to base plate. Lubricate with lithium grease.
7. Install base plate to lock housing cover assembly. Bottom edge of dimmer switch rod actuator must rest on bend in dimmer switch rod.
8. Install lock housing cover assembly.
9. Install screws. Tighten screw in 12 o'clock position first, 8 o'clock position second, and the screw in the 3 o'clock position last. Torque screws in same order to 80 lb in
10. Connect multi-function lever and cruise control connectors together and mount on base plate.
11. Install housing cover end cap.
12. Assemble remainder of steering column as outlined under Upper Column. Refer to Service and Repair.
