1-2/3-4 Forward & Reverse Accumulators


1-2/3-4 FORWARD & REVERSE ACCUMULATORS 4T80-E TRANSAXLE


REMOVAL







1. Remove 10 mm bolts attaching channel plate to accumulator housing, then accumulator housing from channel plate.
2. Remove four check balls, then spring from channel plate.
3. Remove two snap rings on housing side of accumulator housing.
4. Remove 1/2 and 3/4 accumulator assemblies.
5. Remove five 8 mm cover bolts, then accumulator housing cover and gasket.
6. Remove forward and reverse accumulator assemblies.

INSPECTION
1. Inspect accumulator pins for straightness by rolling on flat surface.
2. Inspect accumulator seals for tearing or rollover.
3. Inspect snap rings for overexpansion.
4. Inspect accumulator bores for scratches or nicks.
5. Replace gasket.
6. Inspect springs for cracking or damage.

INSTALLATION

^ Install new seals on all pistons. Use a light coat of transmission fluid to lubricate all seals before installing accumulator assemblies.

1. Install forward accumulator pin, then forward accumulator piston, with new seal, and spring.
2. Repeat Step 1 for reverse accumulator assembly.
3. Install new gasket, then accumulator housing cover and bolts. Torque cover bolts to 6-10 ft. lbs.
4. Install 1/2 accumulator spring.
5. Install 1/2 accumulator pin and piston with new seal, then retain with two snap rings.
6. Install snap ring, then repeat Steps 4 and 5 for reverse accumulator assembly.
