P041
DTC PO41:
Distributor Circuit:
DESCRIPTION
The camshaft position sensor is located inside the distributor and provides one pulse per every two rotations of the engine. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) uses the cam sensor signal to know the location of the camshaft for proper fuel distribution. Code P041 sets when the PCM is receiving reference pulses and does not detect any camshaft position sensor pulses.
TEST CONDITIONS
1. Code P012 not set.
2. Distributor reference pulses being received.
3. RPM 1600 or less.
FAILURE CONDITIONS
No camshaft position sensor pulse received by the PCM for 5.3 seconds.
ACTION TAKEN
PCM turns "ON" the "Service Engine Soon" Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL).
NOTES ON FAULT TREE
This trouble tree requires the use of four jumper wires which can be obtained from essential tool J35616.
Manipulate affected wiring while the engine is running. If the fault is induced the code will set and the wiring should be repaired for an intermittent open or short to ground. Disconnect and reconnect the distributor connector and PCM connector and ensure they are latched.
