Rubbing Noise with the Front Wheels Turned to the Full Lock Position (Cut Out Notch In Wheelhouse Liner and/or Trim Corner of Wheelhouse Extension)

This bulletin is being revised to provide additional "Correction Procedure" information, artwork and warranty information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 43-35-05 (Section 3 - Steering/Suspension).
CONDITION
Some owners may comment on a rubbing noise with the front wheels turned to the full lock position while either accelerating or backing up.
CAUSE
Insufficient clearance between the front tire and the rear wheelhouse liner and/or the front wheelhouse extension.
CORRECTION:
Wheelhouse Liner Modification
1. Raise vehicle.
2. Remove wheelhouse liner from fender opening.
3. Measure and cut out notch in wheelhouse liner as shown with dotted line in Figure 1.
4. Re-install wheelhouse liner.
Notice:
If wheelhouse extension modification is to be performed also, continue with Step 2 of the Wheelhouse Extension Modification.
5. Lower Vehicle.
WHEELHOUSE EXTENSION MODIFICATION
1. Raise vehicle.
2. Measure lower inner corner of wheelhouse extension to be cut as shown with dotted line in Figure 2. The corresponding cut-out dimensions for each body style of vehicle to be modified are listed in the chart following:
3. Remove upper inboard fastening screw.
4. Loosen the lower inboard bolt, but do not remove.
5. Cut and remove marked area of wheelhouse extension using a utility knife or equivalent.
6. Reposition wheelhouse extension by pushing forward and upward. With extension repositioned, tighten the lower inboard bolt.
7. Check upper screw hole for alignment. If hole alignment is off, remove the wheel assembly and drill new hole. The old hole must be filled with a suitable filler.
8. Reinstall upper inboard screw.
9. If removed, install wheel assembly and torque to specification.
10. Lower vehicle.
