Shift Cable: Service and Repair
SHIFT CONTROL CABLERemove or Disconnect
1. Left-hand sound insulator panel to gain access to steering column.
2. Steering column shield.
3. Four (4) bolts and lower steering column.
4. Cable from shifter cam and cable bracket.
5. From inside of car, unseat front of dash pass through grommet by pushing it forward into engine compartment.
6. From underhood, disengage cable from transaxle lever and bracket on top of transaxle.
7. Remove cable from car, carefully pulling cable through front of dash opening.
Install or Connect
1. From underhood, feed column end of cable through front of dash opening.
2. From inside of car, pull cable into position, install cable on column bracket and install cable end on shift cam.
3. From underhood, install front of dash grommet. If necessary, lubricate grommet to ease installation. Be sure that grommet is properly seated.
4. Route cable as shown in Figure 5 and install on transaxle bracket and engage cable end on transaxle lever.
5. Raise steering column and install 4 bolts.
6. Steering column shield.
7. Verify correct operation of shift lever by moving shift lever to all positions and verifying correct transaxle gear selection.
8. Adjust shift indicator.
9. Install left-hand sound insulator panel.
