Shift Interlock: Description and Operation

In RUN, BULB TEST and START the Engine Compartment Fuse Block Fuse "A3" provides battery voltage to the Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch. When the Gear Selector Lever is in PARK, Fuse "A3" provides battery voltage through the PNP switch to the Stop/BTSI/Cruise/Brake switch and the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC).

When the IPC detects this voltage the DIC displays message "APPLY BRAKE TO SHIFT".

When the Stop/BTSI/Cruise/Brake switch is closed, the Shift Interlock solenoid is energized and prevents the Gear Selector Lever from being moved out of PARK. When the brake pedal is pressed, the Stop/BTSI/Cruise/Brake switch opens, removing battery voltage from the Shift Interlock solenoid. The Shift Interlock solenoid de-energizes, allowing operation of the Gear Selector Lever.
