Drive Range - Manual 1st Gear (From Drive Range - Manual 2nd)
Drive Range - Manual First (From Drive Range - Manual Second):
DRIVE RANGE - MANUAL FIRST GEAR (from Drive Range - Manual Second Gear)
When the gear selector lever is moved to the Manual First (1) gear range, the manual valve moves and allows line pressure to enter the Lo fluid passage. Providing the vehicle is operating below 56 km/h (35 mph), the transaxle will shift immediately into first gear and is prevented from upshifting. During the shift into Manual First gear, the following changes occur within the transaxle:
LO/REVERSE BAND APPLIES
Manual Valve: Line pressure at the valve enters the Lo fluid circuit which is then routed to checkball #8.
Pressure Switch: Line pressure at the Lo indicator switch signals the PCM that Manual First gear range was selected by the vehicle operator.
#8 Checkball (Lo): Located in the valve body, Lo fluid pressure unseats the checkball and routes Lo fluid to the 2-3 shift valve.
2-3 Shift Valve: Held in the downshifted position by spring force, Lo fluid passes through the valve and enters the Lo feed circuit. Lo feed passes through orifice #4 and enters the orificed Lo feed circuit and is then routed to the 1-2 shift valve.
Solenoid "A": Energized (ON) by the PCM, high solenoid "A" fluid pressure at the end of the 1-2 shift valve causes the valve to downshift against spring force.
1-2 Shift Valve: Held in the downshifted position by solenoid "A" fluid pressure, it allows orificed Lo feed to pass through the valve and enter the lo/reverse band reduce circuit. Lo/reverse band reduce is then routed to checkball #6 and the spring side of the lo/reverse servo piston.
#6 Checkball (Lo Rev Band Apply/Reduce): Located in the valve body, it is unseated by lo/reverse reduce fluid allowing fluid to enter the lo/reverse band apply circuit. Lo/reverse band apply fluid is then routed to the lo/reverse servo piston where it actuates the piston and applies the lo/reverse band assembly.
FOURTH BAND RELEASES
1-2 Shift Valve: Held in the downshifted position by high solenoid "A" fluid pressure, it allows 4th band fluid from the 4th servo and the 3-4 accumulator piston to pass through the valve. 4th band fluid then enters an exhaust passage where it is routed through orifice #2 before exiting the circuit.
2ND CLUTCH RELEASES
1-2 Shift Valve: Held in the downshifted position by high solenoid "A" fluid pressure, it allows 2nd clutch fluid from the 2nd clutch piston and the 1-2 accumulator piston to pass through the valve and exhaust.
