Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Replacement
POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE SERVICEService of the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) should normally consist of either replacement of the PCM or Knock Sensor (KS) module.
PCM AND KNOCK SENSOR MODULE REPLACEMENT
IMPORTANT: To prevent internal PCM damage, the ignition must be "OFF," when disconnecting or reconnecting power to PCM (for example, battery cable, PCM fuse, jumper cables.).
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Negative battery cable.
PCM With Bracket:
2. PCM mounting hardware.
PCM Removal And Installation:
3. Connectors from PCM.
4. PCM from engine compartment.
PCM With Knock Sensor Module:
5. PCM access cover.
Removing Knock Sensor Module From PCM:
6. KS module.
IMPORTANT:
^ The KS module must be transferred to the replacement PCM.
^ The replacement PCM is supplied without an EEPROM program. The replacement PCM must be programmed before the vehicle will run.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. New PCM.
2. Knock sensor module.
3. Knock sensor module access cover.
4. PCM electrical connectors.
5. PCM mounting hardware.
6. Negative battery cable.
