Troubleshooting Hints - Exterior Lights

PROCEDURE

NOTE: Check for CCM Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 35. If this DTC is present, refer to Computers and Controls and repair this fault first.

1. If the Turn Lights or Backup Lights do not work, check I/P Fuse #12. If open, check for short to ground in CKT 239.
2. If the Hazard Lights do not work, check I/P Fuse #37. If open, check for short to ground in CKT 140.
3. If the Stop Lights do not work, check I/P fuse #38. If open, check for short to ground in CKT 2940.
4. If one of the Turn Indicators goes on when the Park Lights are turned on, check the Front Park/Turn Lights on that side for open or poor connection.
5. If Turn Lights stay on (do not flash) in both Turn Left and Turn Right, replace the Electric Turn Flasher.
6. For any of the following symptoms, replace the Turn/Hazard Switch Assembly:
^ Turn Signal Switch will not turn "ON"/"OFF."
^ All Turn/Hazard/Stop Lights do not work and C210 is firmly mated.
^ Some Turn Lights work and all Hazard Lights work.
^ Some Hazard Lights work and all Turn Lights work.
^ Hazard Lights do not turn "OFF."

7. If Hazard Lights stay on (do not flash) in "Hazard," but Stop Lights operate normally, replace the Hazard Flasher.
8. If Stop Lights do not turn "OFF" adjust/replace the BTSI/Stop Lights Switch Assembly.
9. If a Turn Indicator does not light but the Turn Signal works, check the bulb, connections and wiring to the Indicator. Refer to "Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators."
10. If only one light does not operate, check the lamp, socket and related wiring for opens or corrosion (see schematic).
11. If Parking Lights stay on and Headlights stay at full intensity with daylight conditions check for an obstruction covering the Twilight Sentinel Ambient, Light Sensor. If one Front Park and/or Marker Lamp does not light, check that its ground is clean and tight.
12. If none of the Park/Tail Lights work, check I/P fuse block Fuse #31. If open, repair short to ground in CKT 1140 or CKT 256.
13. If Park Lights do not turn "OFF," check Headlight Switch. If OK, repair short to B+ in CKT 256.
14. If Park Lights are inoperative and the Tail Lights and Turn Signals operate normally, check I/P fuse block Fuse #41 for open. If open, repair short to ground in CKT 308 between I/P fuse block and S103, or check for an open in CKT 308.
15. If License Lamp is inoperative, check for open in CKT 750 between S417 and lamp socket. Check for open in CKT 1256 between S401 and lamp socket.
^ Check for a broken (or partially broken) wire inside of the insulation which could cause system failure but prove "GOOD" in a continuity/voltage check. These circuits maybe intermittent or resistive when loaded, and if possible, should be checked by monitoring for a voltage drop with the system operational (under load).
^ Check for proper installation of aftermarket electronic equipment which may affect the integrity of other systems.
