Antilock Brake System /Traction Control System Codes

On-Board Diagnostic System Check Operation:

ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM DTCs
The Electronic Brake and Traction Control Module (EBTCM) assembly controls display of Antilock Brake System (ABS) and traction control Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) while in diagnostic mode.

CLEARING EBTCM DTCs
The DTCs in the EBTCM memory are erased in one of two ways:

1. Ignition cycle default.
2. Tech 1 scanner method.

Ignition Cycle Default
If the ignition is cycled 50 times without a particular malfunction reappearing, that DTC will be erased from EBTCM memory and the ignition cycle counter in the EBTCM will be reset to zero.

Tech 1 Scanner Method
The Tech 1 can clear ABS/TCS system DTCs using the mass storage cartridge.

1. Install the Tech 1 and cartridge.
2. Select ABS/TCS system features.
3. Select "F2: DTC(s)."
4. Select "Clear DTC(s)."

Battery Interrupt Method Unavailable
DTCs cannot be cleared by unplugging the EBTCM, disconnecting the battery cables, or by turning the ignition "OFF" (except on the 50th cycle of ignition cycle default).

AFTER CLEARING DTCs
Whichever method is used, be sure to verify proper system operation and absence of DTCs when the clearing procedure is completed.

BEFORE ROAD TESTING
The ignition must be turned "OFF" and the Tech 1 scanner disconnected before a road test to check system operation and/or for a DTC resetting. This is necessary because the EBTCM will not set DTCs and ABS/TCS control functions are disabled when the Tech 1 scanner is installed and monitoring the system. The Tech 1 scanner will log DTCs during some of its diagnostic routines, which are described later.
