Catalytic Converter: Description and Operation
Front Portion Of Exhaust System:
DESCRIPTION
This vehicle uses a dual catalytic converter system. This type of catalytic converter is known as a warm-up three way catalytic converter.
The warm-up three way catalytic converters are emission control devices added to the exhaust system to reduce pollutants from the exhaust gas stream. The catalysts have coatings that contain platinum and rhodium. The three way catalyst lowers the levels of oxides of nitrogen (NOx) as well as hydrocarbons (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO).
NOTE: The warm-up three way catalytic converters require the use of unleaded fuel only, or damage to the catalyst may result.
WARNING: Prolonged operation with a misfiring or flooded engine may cause the warm-up three way catalytic converters to overheat. This could cause damage either to the catalyst Itself or the operating vehicle and possible personal injury.
