Fuel Tank Cleaning
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT1. Negative battery cable.
2. Relieve fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel System Pressure Relief Procedure. Fuel System Pressure Relief Procedure
3. Drain fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank/Service and Repair/Draining Fuel Tank. Fuel Tank Draining Procedure
4. Raise vehicle on hoist
5. Fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank/Service and Repair/Fuel Tank Replacement. Fuel Tank Replacement
6. Fuel sender assembly. Refer to Fuel Sender Assembly/Service and Repair/Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement.
INSPECT:
^ Whenever the fuel tank is cleaned, the fuel pump strainer must be inspected. If strainer is contaminated, it must be replaced and the fuel pump must be inspected.
^ Fuel pump inlet for dirt and debris. If found, fuel pump should be replaced.
7. Flush fuel tank with hot water.
IMPORTANT: When flushing fuel tank, the fuel and water mixture needs to be treated as a hazardous material. The material needs to be handled in accordance with all applicable local, state, and Federal laws and regulations.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Fuel sender assembly. Refer to Fuel Sending Unit/Service and Repair/Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement. [1][2]Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement
2. Fuel tank.
3. Add fuel and install fuel filler cap.
4. Connect negative battery cable.
INSPECT
Turn ignition switch to "ON" position for two seconds, then turn to "OFF" for ten seconds. Again turn to "ON" position and check for fuel leaks.
