Troubleshooting Hints

PROCEDURE

NOTE: Check for CCM Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 42 and 43. If present, refer Computers and Controls. Also check for ECM DTC 46. If present, refer to Computers and Controls.

1. Visually inspect the hydrometer (built into Battery).
^ Green dot - Battery is charged.
^ Dark dot - Charge and load test Battery. If Battery passes load test, refer to List of Symptoms.
^ Clear or light yellow dot - Battery electrolyte is low. Replace Battery.

2. Check that Starter Solenoid terminals "S" and "B" and Battery connections are clean and tight.
3. Check that Maxifuse #3 and I/P Fuse #24 are OK. If these fuses are open, check for a short to ground in CKT 1242, CKT 5 or CKT 806.
4. Check that G100 and G101 are clean and tight.
^ Check for a broken (or partially broken) wire inside of the insulation which could cause system failure but prove "GOOD" in a continuity/voltage check. These circuits maybe intermittent or resistive when loaded, and if possible, should be checked by monitoring for a voltage drop with the system operational (under load).
^ Check for proper installation of aftermarket electronic equipment which may affect the integrity of other systems.
