Automatic Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

2. Remove air cleaner assembly, then disconnect TV cable at upper end.

3. Remove transmission oil dipstick, dipstick tube retaining bolt and dipstick tube.

4. Raise and support vehicle.

5. Remove propeller shaft. If necessary remove floor pan reinforcement.

6. Disconnect speedometer cable, shift linkage and all electrical connectors.

7. Remove flexplate cover, then mark flexplate and torque converter to maintain original balance. Remove torque converter to flexplate attaching nuts and/or bolts.

8. Remove catalytic converter support bracket.

9. Remove transmission support to transmission mount bolt, then transmission support to frame bolts and insulator if used.

10. Position a suitable jack under transmission, then raise transmission slightly and slide transmission support rearward.

11. Lower transmission slightly, then disconnect oil cooler lines and TV cable.

12. Support engine, then remove transmission to engine bolts and disconnect transmission assembly. Use caution not to damage cables, lines or linkage.

13. Using torque converter holding fixture tool No. J-21366 or equivalent remove transmission assembly from vehicle.

14. Reverse procedure to install.
