Replacing Lost PASS-Key II Ignition Keys
REPLACING LAST PASS-KEY II IGNITION KEYSIMPORTANT: When servicing the PASS-Key II system, obtain all ignition keys if possible and verify proper values with J 35628-A.
To replace lost PASS-Key II ignition keys it is necessary to determine the mechanical cut and the key code.
The mechanical cuts and key codes are recorded on the vehicle invoice, if these codes are available, use them to create a new key. if not, follow the procedure below.
1. Determine the mechanical cut.
- The mechanical cut can be determined from the code sticker on the ignition lock cylinder or from the original key knock outs.
- If the mechanical cut can not be determined, the ignition lock cylinder should be replaced.
2. Determine the correct key code, by using the J 35628-A and the following procedure:
A. Connect the tool wiring to the body harness side of the PASS-Key II connector (C202) at the base of the steering column. Not to the steering column harness side.
B. Turn the J 35628-A on and place the key code switch in the 1 position.
C. Attempt to start engine with proper mechanically cut key. if engine starts, the key code is 1.
D. If engine does not start, turn ignition switch to the "OFF" position.
E. Press the 4 minute timer on the 3 35628-A.
F. When timer light goes out, or the IPC displays the "START CAR" message. Place the key code switch in the 2 position.
G. Attempt to start the engine. if engine starts, the key code is 2.
H. Continue performing steps D through 6 (trying different key code values) until the correct key code is determined.
3. Using the correct PASS-Key II key code and mechanical cut make a new ignition key.
4. Verify that the new ignition key starts the engine.
