Troubleshooting Hints

PERFORM BEFORE BEGINNING SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS
1. Check all cruise control inhibit criteria (listed below).
^ The engine is "OFF."
^ The transaxle is in park, neutral, low or reverse gear.
^ Engine speed is too high.
^ Vehicle speed is too high.
^ Vehicle acceleration rate is too high.
^ Traction control system is active for more than 2 seconds.
^ The PCM sets DTC 0703 (TCC Brake Switch Problem)
^ The PCM sets DTC Pl575 (Extended Travel Brake Switch Problem)
2. Check for diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). Refer to Engine Controls. Powertrain Management
3. Check that cruise control module linkage is connected and moving freely.
4. Check cruise cable adjustment.
5. Check brake switch for proper adjustment/alignment.
6. Make sure that Center High-Mounted Stop Lamp (CHMSL) is working.
7. Check operation of speedometer, refer to Engine Controls. Powertrain Management
8. Before component replacement, check for poor terminal contact at component and harness connectors.
9. Check for proper installation of aftermarket electronic equipment which may affect the integrity of other systems.
10. Check for a broken (or partially broken) wire inside of insulation which could cause system malfunction but prove good in a continuity/voltage check with a system disconnected, (Refer to "General Troubleshooting Procedures,"). Diagnostic Aids
