Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Special Tools Caution

CAUTION: In order to avoid deploying the air bag when troubleshooting the SIR system, use only the equipment specified and the instructions given. Failure to use the specified equipment as instructed could cause air bag deployment, personal injury to you or someone else, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.

You should be familiar with the tools listed under the heading SIR SPECIAL TOOLS. You should be able to measure voltage and resistance. When measuring resistance in low ohmic circuits (less than 5.0 OHM), The J 39200 must be zeroed first. This is done by shorting the J 39200 test leads together while in the resistance mode and depressing the relative (REL) button. Refer to Measuring Resistance in the J 39200 users manual.

You should be familiar with proper use of a scan tool such as the Tech 2 Diagnostic Computer, SIR Driver/Passenger Load Tool J 38715-A, Connector Test Adapter Kit J 35616-A, and the DVM (Digital Multimeter) J 39200.
