Vehicle Speed Sensor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect the battery negative cable assembly from the battery negative terminal.

CAUTION: Before removing or installing any electrical unit or when a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with live exposed electrical terminals, disconnect the negative battery cable assembly to help prevent personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or components. Unless instructed otherwise, the ignition switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position.

2. Raise the vehicle.
3. Support the vehicle with safety stands.
4. Remove the electrical connector at the vehicle speed sensor.

5. Remove the retaining bolt and the sensor.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the vehicle speed sensor and the retaining bolt.
- Tighten the bolt to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).

NOTICE: Always use the correct fastener in the correct location. When you replace a fastener, use ONLY the exact part number for that application. The manufacturer will call out those fasteners that require a replacement after removal. The manufacturer will also call out the fasteners that require thread lockers or thread sealant. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, do not use supplemental coatings (paints, greases, or other corrosion inhibitors) on threaded fasteners or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such coatings adversely affect the fastener tightening sequence and specifications. Following these instructions can help you avoid damage to parts and systems.

2. Install the electrical connector at the sensor.
3. Remove the safety stands.
4. Lower the vehicle.
5. Connect the battery negative cable assembly to the battery negative terminal.
- Tighten the terminal bolt to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).
